The Details

We have poured our heart into making the best product for your child and believe strongly in transparency. We are proud to share the details of the materials that go into our product because we are committed to safety and sustainability.

Placemat

Our placemat is made from premium quality platinum-cured food-grade silicone. Platinum-cured and food-grade are two separate attributes of our silicone.

First, lets discuss platinum-cured silicone. Platinum-cured silicone does not have byproducts from curing in the final product. Another common material type is peroxide-cured silicone.
Peroxide-cured silicone, which is less expensive, can have byproducts from curing in the final product, which are generally volatile organic acids. This wasn’t sufficient for our peace of mind, so we use platinum-cured silicone.

Our silicone is ‘food-grade’ as well. This means that it adheres to specific formulation requirements and has passed lab tests. These tests measure degradation of silicone when placed in high temperature baths of various liquids. Unfortunately, the ‘food-grade’ label seams to be thrown around casually, but we can assure you our placemat was tested in each color by an independent lab to verify it’s compliance. Our placemat is also tested and certified as phthalate free, BPA free, PVC free, and lead free.

Silicone can be recycled with a specialized recycling process. Should you choose to dispose of your placemat, ship it back to us and we will take care of recycling it (Attention Recycling; PO BOX 307; Northville, MI 48167).

Box
Our placemats are shipped in 100% recyclable cardboard boxes that are constructed without the use of adhesives. Also, we ship our placemats rolled up, which reduces the space they take up by half. Thus, we reduce our environmental impact from shipping.

Box-closure tape
Our boxes are secured with 100% recyclable uncoated kraft paper tape with a natural rubber adhesive.

Amazon barcode label
Our barcodes are printed on 100% recyclable uncoated paper labels with an acrylic adhesive. The special part of our labels is the release liner (the waxy paper you peel a sticker off of). Almost all release liners use virgin paper and are coated in a way that makes them non-recyclable. It’s a unnecessary waste. We use a special release liner that is 100% recyclable.

Carbon Neutral
Our placemat and packaging have earned the Carbonfree® Product Certification for carbon neutrality. A third party completed an ISO-compliant life-cycle carbon audit including raw material extraction, manufacturing, logistics, disposal, and daily use. We offset these carbon emissions through verified projects. The Carbonfund.org Foundation manages the Carbonfree® Product Certification and the portfolio of verified projects that offer permanent carbon reductions.
